“My daughter sat next to the author on a flight. I had the chance to meet her- what a special lady who has spent her life serving children as a teacher. We ordered the book and loved it. Her testimony is not only applicable to children as they learn about the realities of this life but to adults as well.”

— Vickie L, published author

“This powerful story touched my heart. It not only explains Grief & loss when we lose a loved one but also demonstrates the impact of faith and understanding through vibrant colors and great illustrations. I highly recommend this book when the time comes to discuss this difficult topic.”

— Allison Booker Brooks, MBA, LBSW

“The death of a loved one can rock the foundation of your faith. Mad at God highlights Zoe’s sincere expressions about her mother’s death and her struggles with her relationship with God. Mad at God is sweet, funny & heartfelt. It can be used in any setting to help a child talk about their grief and their relationship with God.”

About Erica

Erica Walker Joynes is the only child born to Geraldine King Dodson Walker Randle and Earl Lee Walker. Erica was raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia (Norfolk). Everyone from this part of the country pronounces “Ma Ma” like “Mumma.”

Erica was very close to her Mumma; they spoke several times a day. On the day her Mumma died, Erica had just spoken with her 90 minutes before she got the call that she had passed away. Erica was devasted, yet this poem-turned-children's book was born out of her grief and childlike pain.

Erica is a retired high school educator and social worker. She has always worked in the human services field, as did her Mumma, a career educator herself of over 35 years.
